 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

When can I start the programme?

You can join the programme at any stage of pregnancy, provided you are medically fit to exercise. Aquanatal classes are suitable from early pregnancy through to late third trimester.

Do I need to be able to swim?

No. You do not need to be a swimmer. The pool is a standing depth and classes focus on gentle, supported movement rather than swimming technique.

I have pelvic pain / back pain- is this programme suitable?

Yes. This programme is particularly beneficial if you are experiencing:

-Pelvic girdle pain

-Lower back pain

-Hip discomfort

-General pregnancy-related aches

Your physiotherapy assessment ensures exercises are appropriate and safe for your body.

What if I miss an aquanatal class?

Aquanatal classes are booked as a block of four. Missed classes are non-refundable.

However, if you are unwell or advised not to exercise, please contact us as soon as possible- a one-time courtesy transfer may be offered where space allows.

What happens if I go into labour early?

If you are unable to complete the programme due to early labour or medical advice to stop exercising, we will review your situation on a case-by-case basis.

-Follow-up pregnancy physiotherapy sessions

If you have any pregnancy complications or have been advised to modify activity, please inform us before booking.

What happens during the initial women’s health physiotherapy assessment?

Your initial assessment is a 60-minute, one-to-one appointment focused entirely on your pregnancy needs. It includes:

-A detailed discussion of your pregnancy, symptoms and goals

-Assessment of posture, spine, pelvis and movement

-Pelvic floor assessment (external and/or internal, if appropriate and with your consent)

-Individualised advice to support comfort, function and preparation for labour

-Personalised home exercise programme

Everything is explained clearly, and your comfort and consent are prioritised throughout.

If you prefer not to have an internal assessment, alternative external assessments and education can be provided.

Is women’s health physiotherapy safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Women’s health physiotherapy is safe, evidence-based and highly recommended during pregnancy. All assessments and exercises are adapted specifically to your stage of pregnancy and individual needs.

The assessment can help manage and prevent:

-Pelvic girdle pain (PGP)

-Lower back pain

-Hip pain

-Pelvic floor symptoms (weakness, heaviness, leaking)
